Helloo :O You guys might remember me as Monique from Fleur De Lys (I really need to try and find another claim to fame >_>;). I didn't know where else to post this because there's not really an OOC comm for CNTM, so, uh, yeah. Sorry! Feel free to delete if nececary. I'm definately going to apply for the next round and I wanted to ask before I choose my model (I have two, both of which I love) -what exactly is your positions on ethnic characters? Like, african american and so forth? I know both Autumn and Pearl were cut early last round (I doubt it was for their skin color, though >_____________> But I thought I'd bring it up just incase shoddy skin-editing was a factor in either of their eliminations), but yeah, thought I'd just ask for clarification because it's a picky subject. If you think playing a character like that would require heaps more effort (especially for a newb like me |D), then I suppose I might go with my other choice.

If any of the judges would like me to send them a picture of her for reference on what she looks like/how well I pull it off, then please, just ask. :D (I'd like to keep her from other possible contenders for now though, to avoid spoils XD)

I personally have an olive skinned character that I will be playing if project runway gets up and running. As a judge, I know that every time we've had a contestant with a different skin tone it's created problems only because of the editing and the difficulties presented with that.
The way I've seen it done well is to find a series of layers that with saturation/color/darken/etc. create the skintone you like on top of the elouai skin. And the other thing that needs to be taken into account is hairlines/parts.

I don't believe any of the judges would have anything against it except in cases of bad editing.

Oh, okay! Well that's cool, then. :D It is a very tricky thing to do, but I feel like I've gotten the hang of it... I'd like to see a character like that get far. XD Plus I can only assume that if I survive the first few rounds I'd be able to refine and improve the tone, so yeah. Cool bananas. XD

One of the best ways to deal with this kind of character is to create a nude, clean version of the model with just its nose (you might one to change the mouth and eyes for different poses). That way you have a sort of template to use for every single doll you make throughout the competition.

You might also want to create several different arm poses and leg poses with the required skin colour, and sort of create your own library so you can mix and match premade limbs for different poses. That way you won't have to spend too much extra time for each challenge and photoshoot.

Also, if you have Photoshop or similar editing program, there is an easy way to change skin colour by using tools like the "Replace colour" tool, or just changing the hue and saturation. You would want to do this on your base template before you add clothing, eyes, hair, and nose.

Oh, that's actually a good idea. :O I already have a bald head template for when I need to change hair, but a full body would, at the very least, be good for reference, too. I don't have photoshop (Is there seriously a replace colour tool? That would be...omg...so amazing, if it does what it sounds like it does o_o), but I have seashore. XD On the Mac. I think I will play around with a few trials, though, see how I go with her. :B I think I've found a good skin tone, so yeah! Thank you! :D
